An Evening with Dr. Alberto Todeschini

  • NAB 2.04 Houghton Street London, England, WC2B 4RR United Kingdom (map)

Dr. Alberto Todeschini of Berkeley University, an entrepreneur with close ties to the Bay Area start-up scene will be hosting a talk regarding Bay Area innovation environment, and give personal advice on a successful startup.

The San Francisco Bay Area, including the cities of San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Berkeley, as well as Silicon Valley, and three large research universities --UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, Stanford-- remains by many metrics far and away the startup capital of the world.

Due to the high concentration of entrepreneurial activity and venture capital, having a presence or at least a network of high quality contacts in the Bay Area can be life-changing for London startups. Yet the local culture and ways of working are not always immediately clear.

In this talk, Dr. Alberto Todeschini, lecturer at Berkeley Engineering, discusses nature of the Bay Area innovation environment, including practical advice on how to establish a presence in the region (if doing so makes sense at all), various types of funding available, and various institutions that can help entrepreneurs make the most of their visits to the area.

Alberto did a post-doc in Berkeley’s department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with a focus on natural language processing. Among his current projects there is a text analytics engine for a company that analyzes hedge fund performance, and an analytics suite for a startup that works with health insurance data. Since coming to Berkeley, Alberto has acted as advisor to several startups, two large law firms, and Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
